Cherry Neighborhood January Meeting Recap 2026
Neighborhood Safety and Parking:
One of the main concerns Cherry residents articulated at the meeting is the overwhelming parking problems generated byNorthwood Ravin’s Metropolitan tower development on S. Kings Drive. The developer and contracting companies have not provided the workers with any parking options, other than on the very narrow streets of our Cherry neighborhood. They frequently park in a way that impedes the passage of school and CATS buses, emergency vehicles, and trash collection vehicles. Northwood Ravin has not yet attended a Cherry Neighborhood meeting, but they have indicated they would be willing to participate in our next meeting to start a dialogue about the problems their project is causing our community. Officer Ronald Hill from CMPD’s Providence Division attended the meeting along with Lt. Hildebrand. Officer Hill informed the attendees that if workers were parked legally, there was nothing that law enforcement could do to mitigate the congestion since they were not breaking any laws. However, when workers park illegally, for instance, too close to an intersection, blocking a driveway, or in violation of a posted “No Parking” sign, Officer Hill recommends calling 911. Officer Hill informed us that calling 911 would not interfere with law enforcement’s ability to respond to serious crimes. Since that meeting, some Cherry residents have followed up by calling in parking violations and received a positive response from the City. Details on the City of Charlotte parking ordinances are provided here.
If you have additional questions or comments about safety in the Cherry Neighborhood, you can reach Officer Hill at (704) 336-2878 or access the incident summary table here .
If you wish to submit an anonymous tip about a crime, contact Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600, text TIP372, or visit their website.
Planning, Land Use, and Zoning:
Cherry representatives have worked with the City of Charlotte Planning Department for over a year to address the outstanding issues related to the South Inner Community Area Plan (CAP). The overall goal was to ensure the adoption of a Community Area Plan (CAP) for Cherry that protects our community’s residential character. City Council voted to approve 7 of the 14 CAPs on November 24, 2025, including Cherry’s area within the South Inner CAP. A special thanks to Council Member Dante Anderson (District 1) and other City Council Members for their unwavering support for the resolution of Cherry’s Policy Map and Place Types-related concerns throughout this process. More information on the Charlotte Future 2040 Comprehensive Plan and CAPs can be found on the Planning Department’s website.
The next step in the process for Cherry’s Planning, Land Use, and Zoning team is to confirm the alignment of the UDO One-to-One Translation Map.
Thank you to Mrs. Dennis for leading the invocation and to all who attended! See you at the next quarterly Cherry Neighborhood Meeting, April 30, 2026, from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM.
